HiveEnergy received Silver Medal in Outstanding Food Producer Awards

Local business Parakore Honey, based in Mosgiel, Otago has just won a silver medal for its flagship product HIVEENERGY at the 2025 Outstanding Food Producers Awards.

The Awards – which celebrate Kiwis who harvest, grow and make food and drinks – were first held in 2017. This year a team of specialist judges assessed a record 405 products, awarding the best with an Outstanding Food Producer Award. Champion, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded with winning products wearing medal stickers, as an endorsement of quality.

Since 2018 the Awards have become a prestigious platform for showcasing the diverse and exceptional offerings of Kiwi food and drink producers to food lovers. NZ food industry legend and Awards Head Judge, Lauraine Jacobs who led the 27 judges assessing the products said: “It’s almost overwhelming to observe the strength and high quality particularly in the Paddock Category”.

The medal tally was 151 Gold, 105 Silver and 57 Bronze from a remarkable 125 Kiwi food producers judged at the NEFF Showroom in Parnell over two days in late February

Kirsten and Stephen Beeby, owners of HiveEnergy, bravely decided to showcase the excellence of HiveEnergy by entering it into the 2025 Outstanding Food Producers Awards. By taking this bold step, they not only demonstrated their confidence in the quality of HiveEnergy but also showed a commitment to pushing boundaries and striving for recognition in the competitive food industry. The decision to put their product to the test reflects their passion for innovation and dedication to delivering exceptional food products that stand out among the rest.

With Parakore Honey being established in 2022, and the decline in the local honey market, it soon became necessary to diversify the product lineup beyond just jarred honey. The combination of Steve's innovative mindset and Kirsten's dedication to nutrition led to the inception of HiveEnergy.

"Despite being on the market for less than a year, our product has already gained distribution in popular New Zealand supermarkets like New Worlds and Four Squares, as well as being stocked in sports retail outlets. This medal affirms all of our teams hard work and dedication to getting a product from conception to the shelf.”

The couple is proud to receive the award, as it will greatly benefit their business, “Especially as we look to expand into international markets”.
